I am sorry that I in some ways disagree with Lyn who commented 4 months ago about her worry about A& E closing in Southport. I do agree that we have a ridiculous situation at present where Adult only A & E is conducted at Southport and Children's A & E at Ormskirk (Children only and NOT adults. I can understand her wish for both to be together as if say a family are on holiday and involved in a serious road accident , the adults are taken to Southport whilst the children are attended to at Ormskirk 7 miles away. How ridiculous and awkward is that for the immediate family? I have horrendous experiences over the past 12 months with exceptional long waits at Southport A & E. There is little or no facilities for food and drink available after 5PM at Southport whereas at Aintree A& E such facilities are still running at gone 22.30 . I live is Burscough in West Lancashire. Burscough is now a town as is Ormskirk and Skelmersdale whose A & E facilities are provided by Southport as the nearest centre. Sadly not wishing to put too finer point on it, it is in its present form not fit for purpose and the NHS should consider restoring full A & E facilities back to Ormskirk Hospital which would certainly take much needed pressure off Southport. By doing so Children's A & E could be returned to Southport as then both would be offering both A & E services to an ever increasing population.
I know the argument will be there arn't sufficient government funds to do it but no matter how much money is thrown at the NHS it will always be spent BUT will it be spent where most needed ? The highly paid staff who are supposed to be managing the budget should be made accountable and responsible for where the money is spent and that should be aimed at end users - THE PATIENTS. Just my view or is it?
Will all the services that are intended to be involved. in the 10 year plan be adapted to the local gp services in west lancs.
Also will more resources be put into place for improved elderly care both in hospital and community
How will the future of the nhs affect the gp surgeries and the budget
I’d like to plead with the Health Trusts not to close the A and E department in Southport. It covers a huge area and the nearest is Aintree. Children’s A and E at Ormskirk closes and distraught parents have to navigate finding Alder Hey in Liverpool. I believe A and E for children should be available in Southport. Many more homes have been built around the north Sefton area. There’s no walk in centre and getting a GP appointment is very difficult for same day issues. There’s no train service between Southport and Ormskirk. Many people can’t afford taxis and the buses aren’t frequent enough.
